My Story

Hi, I’m Jen.
I’m a self-taught artist based in Cardiff, and I’ve been obsessed with drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. Even as a little girl, I’d spend hours copying images from colouring books—though I never actually coloured them in! My dad, who’s also an artist, would show me the basics: how to take a stick man and build it into something more real, adding the head, neck, shoulders, and suddenly it all started to come to life.

When I discovered paint in high school, that was it. I was hooked. All the colours, the textures, the different techniques—watercolour, oil, acrylic—I tried them all. Eventually, I found my way to acrylic and I’ve never looked back. Over the years, I’ve painted everything from Spiderman to wildlife to the occasional Disney character, but my heart has always been with portraits. I’ve spent years experimenting, searching for my own style, and what I kept coming back to was colour. I LOVE colour. For me, it’s the heart of everything I paint. It has the power to completely shift the feeling of an image, and that’s what excites me the most.

Portraits remain my passion. There’s just something about the human face—the emotion, the story it tells—that keeps pulling me back. My collection for Waterloo Tea was a turning point. I wanted to paint female portraits like nothing I’d seen before. I finally had the confidence to just go for it, and I’m so glad I did. That series means the world to me—it gave me the space to create what I truly love, in the way I’ve always wanted to. Every piece is full of heart, colour, and joy.

Alongside portraiture, I’ve always had a deep love for film. I’m endlessly inspired by the way movies make you feel. Over the years, I’ve painted scenes from films that have stayed with me, and I’d love to explore this more. I’m still chasing that perfect blend—where my love of cinema and art meet in a single piece. Each new project feels like a step closer to that goal, and it makes me so grateful to have the skills to bring these ideas to life.

Another huge part of my creative journey is teaching. I’ve been teaching for over five years now, and honestly, nothing makes me happier than walking into a class and hearing someone say, “I can’t even draw a stick man!” Then by the end of the session, they’ve created something they’re proud of—something they never thought they could do. That feeling is everything. I offer private one-to-one lessons and run workshops across South Wales. Fancy giving it a go?
